Yokoso (Welcome)
Welcome to my blog!
I hope you are all having a fantastic start to the term. I'm looking forward to hearing what you all are up to.
I have been in Japan for almost two weeks now. I have been having a great time and have been learning a lot.
I am staying with a host family; they are really kind people. Living at my house are: Gentoku (8 year old boy), Koumei (12 year old boy), Miku (15 year old girl), my host father and mother, grandmother and Choco (a little dog). I eat breakfast with them and sometimes dinner. For breakfast I have been offered either Western food (cereal, milk, very sweet Japanese bread), or Japanese food. I've been having a Japanese breakfast each day and it is delicious! It is usually miso soup, rice, salad and vegetables (at the moment bamboo is in season).
I don't have a camera yet, I've bought a new cellphone that should arrive on Monday, and then I will have a camera too. As soon as I do I'll post pictures for you to see my host family and home.
My Japanese classes are really interesting. I have classes 9am-2pm usually. It takes me 45 minutes by bus to get to my language school. I can take a train but it takes longer because I have to switch trains halfway. There are 5 people in my class from a range of countries: German, Swiss, French and American. Each week my classmates change a little as people come and go.
I went to an owl cafe. It was a hoot! Here's a challenge for you. Can you find out what a Japanese owl cafe is? I'll tell you all about it in my next post.
Also, last night I went to a sports match/game with Gentoku and my host dad. The sport I watched is Japan's national sport, and there were 50 000 people there. Can you guess what sport it was? Unfortunately Fukuoka's home team didn't win, but it was a draw! If they won, we would have seen fireworks lit from the middle of the stadium.
I'm looking forward to sharing my learning with you over the next 10 weeks!
O genki de ne! (take care aye) Jaa mata (see you soon ).
Miss Whiting
